One of the leading and most prestigious banks of Egypt requested a solution that enables securely connecting Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) installed at different geographically dispersed locations all over Egypt to its data center in Cairo, the bank was aiming to enable clients to perform secure ATM transactions, save their time and reduce their need for a Bank teller's help or having to pay a visit to one of the bank branches during the limited working hours to complete a transaction. The required network had to be reliable, secure and scalable and to work efficiently even in remote locations where no terrestrial networks or conventional ways of communication are available.
Alkan provided a reliable and scalable solution through its VSAT HUB located at sixth of October city. The solution includes the use of Hughes IP based indoor unit HN7000s at remotes. Also the remote station will utilize low cost 1.2m antenna, low power 2W BUC and LNB. When the customer using ATM to access its bank account the data transfer to HN7000s satellite modem through Ethernet cable between ATM and HN7000s. Once HN7000s receive the data, the data traffic will be transmit through satellite to Alkan HUB which route this traffic to the Bank's data center through the leased line between Bank Misr data center and Alkan HUB. When the servers in the data center receive the request, it will reply immediately to Alkan HUB which route the data traffic to remote sites through satellite. At the end the whole transaction will take around 20 seconds.
